PUR Binders

PUR Binders

PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) binders are widely used in the printing and binding industry for their superior adhesive properties. They are specifically designed to create durable and high-quality book bindings.

One of the key advantages of PUR binders is their flexibility. After curing, they remain flexible, allowing the bound book to open flat without cracking the spine. This is particularly useful for books that need to stay open for reading or reference purposes.

PUR-bound books are highly durable. The adhesive forms a strong bond with the paper fibers, making it resistant to page pull-out, tearing, and spine delamination. This durability ensures that the pages remain securely bound even with frequent use.

PUR binders are versatile and can be used for various applications within the printing and binding industry. They work well with different paper types, including coated, uncoated, and matte stocks. They are also compatible with digital prints, making them suitable for on-demand printing environments.

Bindwel has a long association with Nordson and we also provide PUR systems along with our machines. All Bindwel machines are available in Cold Glue, Hot Melt and PUR variants.

Unlike traditional hot melt or cold glue binders, PUR binders require a curing process to achieve their full adhesive strength. After application, the book block is typically left to cure for 24 to 48 hours. This curing time allows the adhesive to fully penetrate the paper fibers, resulting in a strong and durable bond.

From an environmental standpoint, PUR binders are considered more environmentally friendly compared to solvent-based adhesives. They are free from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and have low odor emissions. The longevity and durability of PUR-bound books also contribute to sustainability by reducing the need for reprints and replacements.
