How D.G. Offset Improved In-House Production with a Perfect Binding Machine for Educational Books

Bindwel Blue Chip perfect binding machine for educational books installed at D.G. Offset in Kolkata

For a growing book printer, production control is decided long before a finished book reaches dispatch. It begins with how efficiently printed forms move through the factory, how reliably binding can be scheduled, and whether every stage of production remains under one roof. At D.G. Offset in Kolkata, increasing demand for educational books made these questions increasingly important. Investing in a perfect binding machine for educational books became a practical step towards keeping more of the production process inside the factory.

Established in 2002, D.G. Offset operates from a 3,000 sq. ft. facility in Kolkata with a team of 15 people. The company specialises in educational publishing while also undertaking commercial print work for customers across India and export markets. Producing between 30 and 100 book titles every month for around 15 to 20 customers, its shop floor houses three offset presses and five post-press machines, giving the company the infrastructure to manage complete book production in-house.

D.G. Offset works with a variety of Maplitho and art papers, producing everything from standard educational titles to heavy engineering publications. As demand for high-quality books continued to grow, maintaining tighter control over production became increasingly important.

Why D.G. Offset Chose a Perfect Binding Machine for Educational Books

Before investing in a perfect binding machine for educational books, one stage of production continued to slow the overall workflow. Printed forms had to be transported outside the factory for binding, adding carrying costs, transport expenses and dependence on external schedules. Every delay affected production planning and made it more difficult to meet customer delivery commitments.

As customer demand increased, the company decided to bring perfect binding completely in-house. D.G. Offset installed the Bindwel Blue Chip, a perfect binding machine for educational books in February 2026 after consistent follow-up from the Bindwel team and confidence in the technical support they provided. During production, one feature stood out immediately. According to the customer, the machine’s nipping section produced books that looked cleaner and better finished.

With binding now completed inside the factory, printed forms move directly from press to binding without leaving the premises. They can now schedule jobs more efficiently, eliminate transport between facilities and maintain greater control over every stage of book manufacturing. According to the company, this shift has improved turnaround time, consistency, labour utilisation, output and overall product quality.

Bringing Book Binding In-House With a Perfect Binding Machine for Educational Books

Today, D.G. Offset produces a wide variety of books through its in-house binding department. One of the company’s proudest productions is Purba Banglar Galpo by Rabindranath Tagore, manufactured entirely in-house. They have also successfully perfect bound engineering books running to 1,100 pages using hotmelt adhesive, demonstrating their ability to handle demanding educational publications.

They also produced a book weighing approximately 3 kg with a spine thickness of 7 cm on the Bindwel Blue Chip. Jobs of this nature require consistent spine preparation, reliable adhesive application and accurate nipping to achieve a durable finished book.

Adhesive Selection and Technical Support

Alongside the machine itself, adhesive selection plays an important role in D.G. Offset’s production process. The company works with Technomelt Q970, Technomelt Q4525 and AS320, selecting different adhesives according to the book application. The customer credits Bindwel engineers and Krishna Ji for providing guidance on choosing the appropriate adhesive for different jobs, helping ensure dependable binding performance across a wide range of publications.

Even after installation, they continue to receive technical support from the Bindwel team. They describe the Bindwel team as professional and says its service engineers are knowledgeable and readily available whenever technical assistance is required. That ongoing support has helped them expand their in-house book production while maintaining consistent binding quality.

Looking Ahead

D.G. Offset believes demand for quality educational books will continue to grow in the coming years. They believe printers that combine printing and binding within the same factory with a perfect binding machine for educational books will be better positioned to handle increasing workloads than those that continue to outsource binding.

For D.G. Offset, installing the Bindwel Blue Chip was more than adding another machine to the production floor. It marked a shift towards keeping complete book production under one roof, giving the company greater control over workflow and positioning it to handle a growing volume of educational book production.
